There are many things that can be handled by the homeowner without the need of a plumber. However, there are also times when the homeowner should step aside and let the work be handled by a professional.

There are many times when small plumbing projects can be handled by even the most unskilled of homeowners. These are usually smaller projects such as a leaky drain under the kitchen sink. Most of the plumbing in homes today is PVC and can be easily fixed by the homeowner. A leaky drain such as this only requires unscrewing the fitting where the leak is occurring and placing plumber’s tape over the threads and reinstalling the fitting. Other small problems such as a clogged toilet can easily be handled with a plunger.

However, there are times when it may be necessary to call a professional plumber, such as if you have tried plunging your toilet and cannot free the clog. A professional plumber may need to come in and snake the drain. Also, in the above example, if a leaky pipe fitting under the sink has been glued, you may need to call the plumber.
Plumbing Contractors

Many people make the mistake of attempting a repair they know nothing about in order to save money by not calling a plumber. If you have no idea what you are doing you might be causing more damage and expense by trying to repair the problem yourself. A good, respectable plumber will be able to fix your problem at a reasonable price and guarantee the work. Often times this is a small price to pay for peace of mind.
